- There are several historical opinions regarding the orgin and nomenclature of Dinajpur, so are some myths. It is assumed that the name "Dinajpur" has took its origin from the name of an influential person "Danuj Ray" (Daanooj). According to another source, in the early of 15th Century (Bangla) Raja Ganesh arrived the throne with a title "Donuj Mordon Deb" and this title became the source of the name. But historian Mehrab Ali denied the above sources and prove them to be baseless. Bookanan assumes some royal persion named "Dinaj" or "Dinawaj" be the source of origin of the name "Dinajpur". But this royal persion exists nowhere in history. According to a hindu myth, Dina, a Brahmin cowboy and according to muslims, a fakir, Dinawaj be the source of origin. However, above all these fog, a connection between the name and Dinajpur Raj is established. There was a here goes an abbreviation mouja with the name "Dinajpur", and though it was first used during the Company reign, geographically it existed from very early. It was the place where stood Dinajpur Rajbari. To honor the king and Rajbari, the district was named "Dinajpur" (1793).
